During the day your home will operate off the solar energy which it is generating via your solar panels. However, when the sun goes down your home ceases to produce solar energy. Therefore, it is vitally important that you have a grid tie inverter to supply your home with electricity when the sun goes down.

Grid tie systems are usually cheaper to run because they don’t use batteries.
